FINALE LOOK
For the finale, I wanted to express my feelings towards the overall injustice that women have faced throughout history. Where it is traditionally normal for a man to walk around without a shirt, a woman must cover herself up, or else she is a “Whore”. I wanted to break this stereotype by allowing us to see a woman's body as an art form, instead of something that is sexualized. I created a sheer sparkly low-cut dress for the female model and had the male wear nipple patches as a symbolization of this.
The “Patriarchy” refers to “a set of socially maintained systems, values, and ideologies that perpetuate arbitrary and outdated ideas about gender and human sexuality, encompassing social phenomena like homophobia, transphobia, and sexism”
In order to destroy toxic patriarchal roles in our society, I believe some anger is needed but anger is not the end goal. It all starts with questioning the boxes that we have been put into. We must challenge gender roles by supporting and encouraging those who wish to break out of the boxes they’ve been conditioned to fit into.
